Split decision: Quad Flyer Vs. Camera and software
My first quadcopter was a gift from wife over three years ago. It was a mini version of a UDI U816 quad. From there I guess I got hooked on flying…
Fun drone produced by a company that seems to aim to please the customer
Me and my son are having a lot of fun with this little drone. No problems with it so far and I like that I can connect any cellphone to use as a video monitor. It has a pretty neat design and seems fairly durable. The controller seems a little flimsy but it does what it’s supposed to do. This company is real big on customer service and they also seem to aim to please and to make sure that your happy. I have no complaints and think this has been a good purchase.
I must say, “Do your research”. I prematurely ordered this Drone before giving the dozens of other ones a closer look and did not read enough information about them. Being a first time buyer/user, I had no idea what I should be looking for. Definitely pays to read reviews by these guys that know them and have a good bit of experience. After receiving it, I put the few parts i was given on the drone , the blade protectors, landing skid and took out the battery to charge it. Right away, I knew I would hate dealing with the tiny screws. Especially when I discovered I had to remove one to charge the battery each time. Just one of those things , you know you’re going to drop and I did, several times. So, no biggie. Then I found the blade protectors just push in. No click or screw to hold them in, and sure enough, a couple of them were loose and fell off easily. Once again , no biggie ,i’ll just put a little tape on them to make them more snug. Transmitter was cheaply made. It had good other reviews as you can see, but after reading up on some of the other ones, i found this one to be out dated a bit, (I think), sure seemed that way. Without checking I assumed the glasses had a purpose for the drone but no, they were just an added toy to the package. No rhyme or reason. See how dumb I am, with my knowledge about drones?
Can be better than a toy.if you want to learn this stuff. Beginner’s choice.
Had this a while and found this is perfect for the beginner which I am. I learned the controls easily. I practiced inside once and found that any hair strand lying near it will get caught up quick in the prop. Take it outside in an open area and have fun, you’ll catch on quicker with the wind than having hair caught up in the props. The prop protectors are not strong enough to handle the weight of a high drop impact, so keep it low until you know how to land the quad-copter. This was a great buy and serves my purpose immensely. The camera is better than most but remember about the camera, you didn’t buy it for pictures. If you did, you will better pictures than most in this price range. The only set back which turned out not to be a set back for me, is the camera doesn’t have a Win10 app, but if you have a spare android or iPhone you can use, I was taking pictures and movies with the app. You don’t need cell service to fly this, just an extra phone you have around.
Highly recommend Holy Stone!
I would highly recommend this drone, and here is why: THE CUSTOMER SERVICE IS SUPERB! YOU WILL NOT REGRET THIS ORDER because if there is ANYTHING that you regret, the company will help you, whether it be finding spare parts, replacing faulty drones, or offering insight into a problem you are having. We got this drone for Christmas, and my son broke a propeller guard right away. Since the spare parts were out of stock on Amazon, the company offered to send me some free of charge. (BTW, we have since learned that other brands on x400 guards will work for ours). Next, we could not get the app to work with our drone. FPV was one of the main reasons we got this model, so we were extremely disappointed UNTIL we contacted Holy Stone and were directed to a link for a new downloaded app, which worked flawlessly. I have been amazed at the footage we have gotten from this little “toy.” THEN IT HAPPENED: My son tried “Headless Mode,” which is supposed to be easier, but I suspect he had it calibrated incorrectly, and he sent it flying into a 70′ pine tree. I contacted Holy Stone for some insight, and they gave me several pointers as well as offering a significant discount for us to order a replacement drone (which we did not end up needing, since they were running a lightening deal that same day). Since I got one through the lightening deal and was not able to use the discount, they offered a free accessory that was very useful for us. I just cannot get over how responsive their customer service is, and I believe that any company that cares about their products and customers to that level will be a success. As for the drone itself, it does feel like very lightweight plastic, which might be described as “cheap” by some, but I guess that less weight means better battery life, right? Aside from the propeller guards, I have no problem with the quality of the material nor the ability to handle it outdoors. The things that I’d love to have added are spare screws (they are tiny, and we have lost a LOT of ours, but luckily, it all stays together even without them), and then I’d love to have sound on the camera (and pan/tilt), but then we would surely be looking at another level in cost, right?
Nice Quad and Responsive Customer Service
Just got the X400C the other day and have enjoyed learning to fly it. The flight controls and flight characteristics seem to pretty much match what you would expect in a larger more powerful quad so I think it’s a good learning platform if that’s where you ultimately want to go. If you don’t want to go beyond this quad it’s certainly good and fun enough.
The instruction book that came with the drone seems to have pretty good instructions which were pretty easy to follow
I bought this drone to give to one of my sons, but found out after I did that he really does not have an interest in drones. So, I decided to play with it myself. The instruction book that came with the drone seems to have pretty good instructions which were pretty easy to follow. Only problem was that I had to use a magnifying glass to see what was in them. Also, I had difficulty with the download of the app to from their website my smart phone (I have a Samsung 6). However, sending in an email on a weekend to ask for some help with that caused an immediate response, probably an automatic reply. Within 30 minutes or so, I had an email from a person who gave me step by step instructions on downloading. I had the drone flying with the camera working and the display on my phone within minutes.
Great Intermediate Level Copter
We really like this copter it’s a lot of fun. I would recommend for someone who’s already had a cheap beginner copter and is ready to go to the next level. The controls are very sensitive in “beginner mode” hence it would be better suited for intermediate level pilots.
Thank you Holy Stone!!
I wanted to update my experience with the Holy Stone X400C. I had some issues with our first unit. I heard that you have to be careful not to over-revv the motors when you first get it. Hard to tell a 12 year old to keep it under control, so we seized one of the motors.
